New book launches with art exhibition

A photo of Professor Wade at his exhibition

The latest book from Dundee University Press, Circles, by Professor Nick Wade has been launched together with an exhibition of art work connected with the new book.

Professor Wade, Professor of Visual Psychology, has examined and researched Circles and says that they are so much a part of our daily lives that we overlook their significance.

Professor Wade says, "Circles are powerful perceptually and they convey symbolic significance in human art and artefacts. Circles have been the substance of science and the signifiers of symbols because circles represent spheres."

Professor Wade’s research is concerned with three aspects of perception: the representation of space and motion in human vision; the history of research in visual science; and the relationship between visual science and visual art.

He has written twelve books and edited four others, as well as publishing over 150 articles and chapters. His art work has been exhibited internationally as well as being published in many newspapers, magazines, journals and books. The exhibition, called Squaring the Circle, is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, at the Queen Mother Building, University of Dundee campus.

On show will be a collection of exciting images which illustrate the points made in this fascinating book.
