US Ambassador to give ITEAS Lecture at Dundee

The current state of transatlantic relations and the effect they have on the world stage will be addressed by the US Ambassador Hon Robert Tuttle when he gives the annual lecture of the Institute for Transatlantic, European and American Studies at the University of Dundee next week.

Mr Tuttle’s lecture, titled `Transatlantic Relations, International Agenda’ comes at an interesting and challenging time for US international relations - a forthcoming Presidential election in 2008, continuing difficulties arising from the Iraq invasion and the perennial threat of Al Qaeda. Mr Tuttle will undoubtedly provide a fascinating viewpoint on many of these important issues.

Mr Tuttle has been United States Ambassador to the Court of St James since July 2005. Prior to that he had served during the Reagan Administration as an Assistant to the President in 1982 and as Director of Presidential Personnel in 1985. The Ambassador was also on the Board of Directors of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. He has also served as Chairman of the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art from 2001 to 2004.

The lecture takes place at 6 pm on Thursday November 15th in the New Teaching Block at the University of Dundee.

All are welcome to attend with free tickets available in advance from the Tower Reception at the University or by contacting events@dundee.ac.uk

NOTES TO EDITORS

This is the fifth annual lecture hosted by ITEAS. Previous speakers have included Lord George Robertson of Port Ellen, former Secretary General of NATO, Defence Secretary and MP, and Sir Crispin Tickell, formerly British ambassador to the United Nations and president of the Royal Geographical Society.

The Institute for Transatlantic, European and American Studies (ITEAS) was founded in 2003.

It incorporated the long-established and successful existing programmes in American Studies and Contemporary European Studies and created the new suite of courses in Transatlantic Studies, by drawing on a rich history at the University for research in Transatlantic Studies, illustrated by the success of the Transatlantic Journal which is hosted by the Politics Department and is edited by Dundee's very own Professor Alan Dobson.
