Professor given bursary

The University of Dundee’s Dr James Stewart, has been given a writers bursary of £3,000 by the Scottish Arts Council.

Dr Stewart has been writing poetry for four decades, with selected verses being published during this time. The money will, he hopes, allow him to collect some of his work together for the first time.

Dr Stewart says, "I was told about the possibility of an award, so filled in the form and sent off about twenty examples of my work. I was delighted to be awarded the bursary by the Scottish Arts Council, it’s a great honour. This gives me a financial cushion to concentrate on putting out some of my work."

Dr Stewart is a lecturer in the Department of English and is currently developing the Creative Writing course with Prof Kirsty Gunn. They will be taking the Creative Writing workshop as part of the Dundee Literary Festival next week. For more details go to www.dundeeliteraryfest.org.
