RSA Professional initiative for Dundee students

RSA Darkspace Exhibition 2007
01 - 11 March , 2007, RSA Lower Galleries, The Mound Edinburgh.
Admission Free, Open Mon to Sat 10 - 5, Sun 12 - 5.

Three students from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art have co-curated a new exhibition opening this Thursday at the RSA as part of their professional development. The 14 artists in DARKSPACE were selected by Colin Greenslade, RSA Exhibitions Coordinator and Dundee students Tielia Dellanzo, Nicole Porter and Fiona Hunter. The project was set for them by the RSA, under the guidance of Colin Greenslade, as a live brief for their module in Professional Practice. This RSA initiative enables emerging artists, curators and administrators the opportunity for strategic career experience and development.

RSA DARKSPACE is exhibition of emerging fine-art film makers in Scotland who push the boundaries of convention by employing the latest technologies and concepts in the medium of film. DARKSPACE will be the second presentation of new film works by recent graduates from Scottish art schools. It is intended that DARKSPACE highlight the quality and breadth of practice currently being undertaken by fine artist film makers in Scotland today.

Colin Greenslade states "This project has been very worthwhile for the RSA, the students from Dundee and the exhibiting artists. Harnessing and promoting the energy of emerging talent coupled with the enthusiasm and skill of the three students steering the project has been very invigorating. The Dundee students have selected and promoted this show to a very professional standard. They have been given the opportunity to steer this project and have also had the opportunity to assist with the RSA Annual Student Exhibition and Body Parts Performance Festival, giving them an insight into the workings of an institution such as the Royal Scottish Academy. Looking to the films and the artists themselves it is encouraging that such breadth of talent is emerging from the Scottish arts schools. Family history, singing to seals, dancing to camera, people watching, an empty Cumbernauld, vocal history and stop-gap animation all feature in this energetic celebration of new film-making in Scotland today."
