New performance spaces in Dundee

Dundee has three new performance stages this week as students from the School of Architecture at the University of Dundee take to the boards.

The second-year architecture students were handed the task of creating the "Urban Performance Spaces" stages as part of a second-year project which relates to performance.

The students have been coached by professionals at Dundee Rep in the demands of physical theatre and have now created three timber-built stages - at the Cultural Quarter, Roseangle and Perth Road - where they will give brief performances this week to fulfil their project task.

"The three main themes running through our year are City, Making and Performance, and the best way for the students to learn about performance is to get directly involved in it themselves," said course leader Colin Ross.

"The stages are only being set up for this week but we hope the Rep will keep one of them for outreach work."

A number of local companies have supported the project, including Dundee Rep, Bell & Sime Timber Suppliers, Scottish Centres and Wilkies Textiles.
