Design success for students


Design students at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design have been celebrating a successful summer with a clutch of top awards in national and international competitions.

Three prestigious New Designer Awards were won by Dundee graduates at the annual showcasing exhibitions in London in July.

Andrew Ross BSc(Hons) Innovative Product Design won the Swarovski Crystal Palace Award, Anna Hegarty BDes(Hons) Jewellery and Metal Design won the Argos Award and Andrew Stevenson BDes(Hons) Textile Design took top spot in the Worshipful Company of Weavers Associate Prize.

DJCAD students were also on a winning streak at the Design and Art Directors (D&AD) International Student Awards 2008.

Johanne Dailly and Paul Meikle, both BDes(Hons) Graphic Design, won a coveted 'yellow pencil' for their submission to rebrand the famous London toy store Hamleys for its 25th anniversary celebration.

In a separate category Natalie Candlish BDes(Hons) Graphic Design was 'highly commended' for her suite of stop-frame animations promoting Belu Water which focussed on the company's eco-friendly packaging policy.
