A new "research shop" highlighting the activities of the new Clinical Research Centre at Ninewells was officially opened in June by TV presenter and former University Rector Lorraine Kelly.

The `shop,' in the main concourse at Ninewells, will provide details of clinical research studies being run at the CRC - as well as across NHS Tayside and the University - and how people can get involved.

It will also provide information about research studies in general - how they are run and the benefits they can bring in tackling many of our major diseases.

Dr Charles Weller, CRC Operations Manager, said it was essential the public were given as much information as possible about clinical research studies and how they can engage with them.

"There are many benefits to clinical research and studies are essential if we are to gain a greater understanding of diseases such as diabetes and cancer and develop new treatments for them," said Dr Weller.

"At the same time we recognise that many people may not be aware of what is involved in taking part in clinical research and may be apprehensive. We want to get as much information to those people as we can and explain exactly what it is we are doing."
