Top post for accounting professor

Professor Christine Helliar, Professor of Treasury Management in the School of Accounting and Finance, has been elected as the next Chair of the British Accounting Association.

She will take over as vice chair in 2009, take up her post as chair in 2010 for two years and resume the role of vice-chair in 2012.

"I am really looking forward to this role and the status that it will confer upon Dundee," said Professor Helliar, who also co-edits the BAA's British Accounting Review Research Register with accounting and finance colleagues Dr Gwen Hannah and Dr Lissa Monk.

"I have five years ahead of me when I will be fully engaged with the accounting and finance academic community and will also have a major role to play in the replacement for the current RAE exercise for our discipline.

"It is a great honour to know that BAA members have overwhelmingly nominated and then appointed me as their next chair

"Most academics in UK accounting and finance departments are members of the BAA and it provides a number of different forums where academics can meet and share their current research ideas and discuss the state of our profession."

The School of Accounting and Finance will be hosting the next BAA annual conference in Dundee between 21 and 23 April next year.
