Law students represent Scotland in counselling contest

A team of two Diploma in Legal Practice students from the School of Law have won a place in the international finals of a major counselling competition to be held in India in April.

Steven Blane and Bruce Langlands scored a unanimous win in the Scottish Client Counselling Competition in Aberdeen at the end of January. They will now represent Scotland at the International Competition in Bangalore.

Steven and Bruce were coached by David Brand and Lynne Mannion, the Director and Associate Director of the Diploma in Legal Practice.

Tuition in client counselling forms an integral part of the teaching on the Diploma which all law graduates must obtain before starting a legal traineeship. Steven has secured a traineeship with McGrigors, one of Scotland's largest law firms with offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh, London and Belfast and Bruce is going to prominent local firm Blackadders.

A team from Dundee previously won the Scottish Competition in 1995. The International Competition has been running since 1986 and seventeen teams competed for the trophy in Sydney last year.

Steven and Bruce hope to emulate the success of the Scottish team from Glasgow who won the International Competition in Florida in 2002.
