The elephant in the room

an image of the three life size elephants at Hospitalfield

Fine art students enjoyed a "hands on" with the elephants at Hospitalfield House, Arbroath in March, following a well received lecture by Miami artist in residence Billie Grace Lynn. Her three life size elephants, made of inflated white rip-stop nylon made a bold and extraordinary statement sharing the elegant nineteenth century picture gallery with delicate china and handcrafted woodworks.

Hospitalfield Trust was established in 1890 by Patrick Allan Fraser, a key figure in the arts and crafts movement, who restored and expanded the historic house and, as his legacy, established the trust to support artists in their professional development.

A unique venue offering studio-workshop facilities and accommodation for international artists' residences, Hospitalfield House also welcomes events including away days, dinners, weddings and special occasions. Carol Pope is organising a group visit of Hospitalfield House for potential users/events managers. Contact her on 388342 or c.l.e.pope@dundee.ac.uk.
