1 December: The Dundee Christmas Lecture - Professor Steve Jones
6pm, Main Lecture Theatre, New Teaching Block
Professor Steve Jones will give the first Dundee Christmas Lecture to commemorate the university's 40th anniversary year. The lecture "Why evolution is right and creationism is wrong" is free and open to all.

5 December: The Autonomy of the Object - Film Programme
4.00pm. Films will be screened in Lecture Theatre 5014, Matthew Building, DJCAD
Some video works of Igor Krenz
The short video works of Polish artist Igor Krenz (b.1959) are sparing in both form and content. Their action usually takes place in the artist's studio, against the background of a white wall, where the artist carries out simple, often time-consuming experiments in front of the camera.
This forms part of the programme to accompany the Autonomy of the Object exhibition which runs at the Cooper Gallery, DJCAD until 14 December.

11 December: Royal Scottish Geographical Society Lecture
7.30pm, D'Arcy Thompson Lecture Theatre, Tower Building.
Ian Macartney: "Through the Middle East by Cycle - My Desert Experience?"
Former georgraphy teacher turned long distance cyclist Ian Macartney describes the people and landscapes encountered on a 52000-mile bicycle journey across a series of deserts from the Libya/Egypt border to Wadi Rum in Jordan.

12 December: The Dundee Afternoon Lectures

Gordon Maxwell: "Tayside Wildlife"
An experienced observer of local wildlife, the speaker will illustrate and discuss a wide variety of habitats from upland moor to coastal fringes.

An early film by Henry VIII's Wives, a group consisting of artists Bob Grieve, Rachel Dagnall, Sirko Knupfer, Simon Polli, Per Sander, and Lucy Skaer.

Cooper Gallery, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design
9.30am to 5pm (Monday to Friday), 10.30am to 4.30pm (Saturday and Sunday). Free entry to exhibition.
"The Autonomy of the Object" brings together two artists' work that explores the self-possession of readymade objects. London-based Knowles turns to nature for his work while Lauschmann, a German artist based in Glasgow and currently a tutor in the School of Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, uses the man-made.
The exhibition is accompanied by a programme of film screenings in Lecture Theatre 5014, Matthew Building, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design.

Until Friday 14th December: Exhibition: Still Life with Rabbits - Ewan Manson & Janey Muir
Ewan Manson and Janey Muir curate an exhibition from works held in Duncan of Jordanstone's Lower Foyer Collections Store. The selected work will be hung 'salon' style within the adjacent gallery. The emptied collections store will subsequently house a collaborative site-specific installation, exhibited alongside individual responses to each other's artistic practice.
Viewers are also invited to attend a talk about Duncan of Jordanstone's collections and hear from previous students whose work is featured in the exhibition.

Marking the university's 40 years of independence this exhibition by the Archive, Record Management & Museum Services features photographs, documents and artefacts from their collections.

Until 20 December: Exhibition - Watch the Skies
The Tower Foyer Gallery
Part of the Culture Day celebrations held in November this exhibition shows some of the ways in which artists and photographers respond to the weather and includes paintings by Joan Eardley and John Constable. There are also photographers by Michael Peto and Duncan Marquiss.

21 December: Christmas Wreath Making
Botanic Garden Education Centre
1pm to 3pm. Cost is £15 (Limited to 15 places)
Get jolly with holly and make a traditional wreath for your front door. Materials provided plus mince pies and tea/coffee.
