Wonder women celebrated

photo of Chris Murray demonstrating how wonder woman's role changed

Wonder woman and how this iconic female figure changed alongside American political ideologies through the years was just one of the topics discussed at a recent seminar on interdisciplinary gender research.

Chris Murray of the English Department demonstrated how Wonder Woman's role changed from second-world war Amazon, to a 1970s feminist symbol, and more recently a Bush-era victim.

Mary Young from Archives discussed how Dundee's archives contain material essential for further gender study, Jim Stewart talked about editing Virginia Woolf's novels, and Rachel Jones discussed feminist philosophy.

The seminar, which was attended by more than 50 people from the University and Dundee, was the first in a series of seminars related to gender issues that will be held every semester.

Anyone interested in offering a paper for future seminars, being sent further information about the Baxter Centre or applying for the Women, Culture and Society programme at Dundee should contact Marion Wynne-Davies on m.wynnedavies@dundee.ac.uk.
