Retiral - Flyin' Jannie Retires

photo of Doug Dyer's retirement

One of the University's best known and best loved people, Doug Dyer, retired in April after working for 23 years as a janitor with the University.

Doug's retirement was marked by a reception where he was presented with gifts from a number of departments and services around the University as a mark of their appreciation.

Known by his co-workers as 'The Flying Jannie', due to his regular overseas trips, and 'The Wallet', because he likes to carry two wallets, Doug said he has been taken aback by the well wishes he has received and the amount of people that have told him he will be missed.

And he will be missed. At his retirement reception, Gordon Laing thanked him for all his service, hard work and reliability.

"Doug always does what he is asked without any question or argument. And, he always does it well and never lets you down," he said.

Travel, rest and relaxation are top of Doug's agenda for his retirement but he says he will miss the University and especially the people.
