Dundee biosciences no.1 for impact factor

The University of Dundee has the highest impact in molecular biology/genetics and biology/biochemistry of all UK universities, according to the latest Thomson Scientific Rankings.

In the latest issue of Science Watch, Thomson Scientific ranked UK universities based on the total number of citations and their impact (the average number of citations per paper) during the 2001-2005 period.

Measuring the average number of citations per paper, or impact, was used as a means to remove the advantage of larger institutions that publish more papers, allowing smaller institutions to demonstrate their influence.

The University of Dundee ranked top for impact in two fields - molecular biology/genetics and biology/biochemistry and placed third overall in the UK based on the average of citations per paper, 2001-2005.
