New procurement and purchasing publications available to staff

The University's Central Purchasing Office has recently produced a new Procurement Strategy and a Purchasing Manual to assist staff dealing with difficult financial procedures.

A division of the University's Finance Office, the Purchasing Office provides advice and guidance on the purchasing of goods and services and establishes and renews contracts on the University's behalf.

Purchasing Manager, Sylvia Beswick says, "We aim to provide and demonstrate value for money by using procedures that help the University to meet European and UK legislation, while helping the University to meet its aims and objectives."

"The Higher Education Sector is largely funded by the UK taxpayer and with the vast amount of research funding received from Research Councils, the University is required to demonstrate that we have used this money wisely."

The Strategy lists the University's objectives and priorities, while explaining how the University fits in and benefits from a co-ordinated approach at a Scottish and National level.

The Purchasing Manual should be used by anyone involved in committing the University's budgets and/or funding on goods and services.

The Manual includes various sections that can quickly and easily be referred to for guidance and advice, along with a section on How to Tender using the University's Procurement Strategy.

The Procurement Strategy and Purchasing Manual are available on the purchasing office website: http://www.dundee.ac.uk/purchasing/

The Central Purchasing Office is hosting a "Meet the CPO" event from 10.30am - 3.30pm on Wednesday 12 April in the Main Hall of the Bonar Hall. All staff are welcome to attend. As well as an opportunity to meet CPO staff, a variety of suppliers will be on hand to offer information and advice on the many contracts available. A buffet lunch will be provided and Deputy Principal Geoff Ward will conduct a prize draw.
