Breast cancer survivor plans monster bike & hike

picture of Lorna Stevenson

Lorna Stevenson, a lecturer in the Department of Accountancy and Business Finance, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. She now wants to push herself to the limit to help raise funds for the cancer caring centre that helped her through her darkest days.

"Discovering I had cancer turned my world upside down. Thankfully, I discovered an organisation called Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres, who helped me to cope all the way through my cancer journey," Lorna says.

Lorna is now delighted to be back at work and on the road to recovery from the disease. But her appreciation for the people who helped her through her ordeal has not been forgotten.

"I want to help raise money to help ensure that other people affected by cancer continue to benefit from Maggie's. To do this I am going to undertake an event that will really challenge me - Maggie's Monster Bike and Hike on April 29 and 30."

The Monster Bike and Hike will require a monster effort, involving biking for 30 miles before a 23 mile hike - all within 24 hours.

If you'd like to support Lorna's fundraising efforts you can donate directly at www.justgiving.com/bonviveurs. You can also help by looking out your dancing shoes and coming along to a ceilidh organised by Lorna in the Bonar Hall on 31 March from 7.30 until midnight. To buy ceilidh tickets @ £10 or to find out more contact Lorna on l.a.stevenson@dundee.ac.uk
