EXHIBITIONS

20 January - 11 March Riddles of Form
This exhibition looks at how both artists and scientists make sense of the world around them through shape and form.

Combining works of art with scientific instruments and natural history specimens from the University of Dundee's collections, the exhibition demonstrates examples of the forms and shapes employed by artists, scientists, and living organisms, and tries to identify some links between their design.

'Riddles of Form' is curated by Museum & Gallery postgraduate students from the University of St Andrews

27 January - 25 February S.A.D.
Inspired by its seasonal slot and character of the hosting gallery, this exhibition aims to overcome the 'winter blues'. By using art to evoke optimism, by highlighting beauty in the everyday and creating happiness through visual delight, the space will become a place where even the strongest feelings of seasonal depression can be combated. Two young emerging artists have been asked to tackle the challenges presented - DJCAD MFA graduate Valerie Norris and Edinburgh College of Art graduate Juliana Capes.

Lamb Gallery, 1st Floor, Tower Building, University of Dundee. 27 January - 25 February. Mon - Fri 9.30am - 8pm, Saturday 10.30am - 4.30pm. Free admission

10 - 13 March The Scientific Art of Identity
This exhibition is the culmination of work created during a five day workshop for children which will use a mixture of art and science to focus on who we are and what we look like. The children will explore some of the many different things that give them identity, and will look closely at DNA structures and how these can be used to create self-portrait sculptures.

The project has been developed by internationally recognised environmental artist Paul Goodrick and the Centre for Professional Development at DJCAD.

Paul will be working with Angela Molloy, an artist/teacher, Sue Parsons, a science teacher, and two classes of children and their teachers from Blackness and Forthill Primary Schools, both in a school setting and at the Sensation Science Centre in Dundee.

A wider outcome is also planned, so that schools across Scotland can benefit from a Teacher's Pack and a framework for running in-service training.

Alison Mountain will be co-ordinating the project for Dundee University and can be reached on 01382 345312 or at a.c.mountain@dundee.ac.uk.

The exhibition will run at Sensation Science Centre from 2:30pm Friday 10 March to 12 noon Monday 13 March. 10am - 5pm daily. Admission to Sensation is £6.50 for adults, £4.50 for children, students and senior citizens, and £20 for families (2 adults + 2 children). Teachers and the families of children involved will receive free admission (voucher system). University employees will receive free admission to the opening.
