Love and War - The Trunk

a picture of the family who gave

Love and War are the theme of a new exhibition in the Tower Foyer Gallery.

The exhibition was organised by Jane Milroy of the Tayside Building Preservation Trust based in the School of Town and Regional Planning and includes items recovered from a trunk that lay untouched for more than 30 years.

"This trunk has lain undisturbed since my father John Wylie's sudden death in 1965. When my mother Sally died in 1995 I inherited the trunk and its contents."

"Hearing that the University was to be marking the 125th anniversary of University College Dundee prompted me to open the trunk knowing my father had been a student of engineering here in the 1930s."

"The trunk led me on a rather remarkable and hugely sentimental journey where I discovered a wealth of material about my father's childhood, as a student, in war, the love letters he wrote to Sally and documentation on his close family."

The exhibition represents just a small sample of the enormous amount of information found in the trunk.

Jane and her family have also endowed an annual prize for engineering students in memory of her father.

Admission to the exhibition in the Tower Foyer Gallery is free. The exhibition will run on 25 April. Opening times are Mon-Fri 9:30am-8:30pm, Sat 9:30am-16:30pm.
