Students welcomed to a new year of learning

A new cohort of students has been welcomed to the University as the new academic year begins. Their welcome package included a week long programme of events which introduced them to student life on the newly revamped and vibrant campus and information sessions that took into account the diversity of today's student population.

Irene Donaldson, Head of the Student Advisory Service, said student engagement and empowerment were the two main emphases of induction sessions.

"Highlighting personal development planning and recognising how it can be used to build a future, and equipping students at the start of their studies with the skills, capacities and knowledge to be effective, independent learners are key tools to improve future employability," she said.

The Student Induction Working Group has focused on providing an environment where students take control of what they want from the University experience and, at the same time, ensuring they are aware of what support is available to them along the way.

Further information sessions, workshops, receptions, as well as social and cultural events, will continue to be offered by Student Services throughout the year.
