European Philosophy comes to Dundee

Leading philosophers from around the world visited Dundee recently to attend the major annual event for European philosophy in the UK - the Society for European Philosophy and Forum for European Philosophy Joint Conference.

The event, hosted by Philosophy, School of Humanities, marked only the second time in their history that these two major research organisations have held their annual conference together.

More than 50 speakers presented work on a broad range of philosophical topics, which ranged from metaphysics and politics to feminism and aesthetics.

The presenters were joined by three plenary speakers of international standing: Jacques Rancière, one of France's foremost philosophers; Luce Irigaray, one of the most important feminist philosophers of our time; and Manuel de Landa, a major thinker of contemporary materialism and continental philosophy of science.

Philosophy teaching fellow, Dr Beth Lord said, "European philosophy has grown to become the central specialty of Philosophy at Dundee, and Dundee is now considered one of the best places in the UK to work on contemporary European thought."
