DJCAD facility benefits engineering firms

Rolls Royce and Ford are just two of the engineering companies to have benefited from the laser technology services of DJCAD-based Kestrel 3D Limited. Kestrel's patented technology has helped these companies to find innovative solutions to manufacturing problems.

According to Ken O'Mahoney, Director of Scanning Services at Kestrel 3D Limited, "Demand for the services is growing at a very strong pace." Their unique techniques are enabling companies to reduce the time spent on various projects.

Ken said, "One of our clients, Coleman Manufacturing, had to produce a 3D CAD file for an existing casting that weighed around 100 kg. This would have taken at least three weeks using traditional design engineering methods, but thanks to the Metris scanning technology that we have recently introduced the whole process took less than five days."

Metris 3D scanning technology provides very high resolution scanning, but costs roughly 25% less than Arius 3D colour scanning, due to reduced scanning and post production time required.

Both Metris and Arius scanning technologies are available to research staff within the University. Initial scanning work can be carried out on feasibility projects without charge.
