Lorraine Kelly, the University's newly elected Rector, has been installed in a special inauguration ceremony, after participating in the traditional 'drag' from Dundee's City Chambers to the University.

Lorraine was met by Student President Chris Bustin and welcomed to the City of Dundee by Bailie Neil Powrie at the City Chambers. She was then dragged to the University by students from the University's women's rugby team - having stopped off at three public houses en route.

Principal Sir Alan Langlands greeted Lorraine before the start of the official installation ceremony, where she delivered her official Rectorial address at a ceremony in the Bonar Hall.

She said, "I am delighted and honoured to have been elected as Rector of the University."

"My main aim as Rector is to be the voice of the students. I hope they will come to me with any problems or worries they may have - or any ideas to make things even better. I will be here on campus for regular surgeries and I want students to feel they can write to me, email me or come up and say hello. I will also be an ambassador for the University both here in Dundee but also throughout the UK."

She continued, "This is a vibrant, exciting place of learning. I am very proud to be associated with such a wonderful, successful, forward looking University and I am really looking forward to the next three years." a photo of lorraine kelly

A champagne reception was held on the Tower lawn after the ceremony, where students and staff welcomed Lorraine to the University.

'LK Today', Lorraine’s GMTV show, was broadcast from the University's Tower café the following morning. The programme included an interview with Dundee-born actor Brian Cox, who spoke about his support for the University's Centre for Interdisciplinary Research (CIR). The show also featured fashion modelled by students and footage from across the city.

With viewing figures of just under two million, the programme was excellent exposure of what the University can offer potential students and staff.
