University voted top
The University has clinched another first after being voted Europe's best scientific institution to
work in by an international poll of scientists.
The survey was carried out by the Scientist magazine, which conducts an annual poll of academics and
postdoctoral researchers to find out the institutions they rate as the best places to work.
Last year Dundee was ranked third outside the USA but second in Europe to the INRA Research Centre in
France. This year however, the University has left the INRA behind for top spot in Europe and third only
the Universities of Toronto and Alberta. The only other UK institution in the top 10 outside the USA was
the University of Liverpool which came in at number ten.
Dundee-based MSP Marlyn Glen tabled a motion in the Scottish Parliament to congratulate the University on
its award. Her motion stated, "This Parliament congratulates Dundee University on being recognised
as the best scientific institution in Europe and further notes the University's valuable role as a worthy
ambassador for the City of Dundee through its prolific production of scientific excellence."
