Despite taking just twelve days to organise, the Scottish Premiere of X-Men 2 ran more smoothly than the world premiere which was seven months in the planning according to a 20th Century Fox representative.
Over 450 of Scotland's senior business people and a sprinkling of celebrities turned out to support the new diabetes and tropical diseases research unit in the School of Life Sciences.
MC for the evening was presenter, comedian and University Rector Fred MacAulay and the film itself was introduced by on-screen arch villain and campaign patron Brian Cox. Brian, who is an honorary graduate of the University, spoke of the immense pleasure he had in showing his work in Scotland. He also praised the work of the university and highlighted how research carried out by University of Dundee scientists had resulted in him being able to control his diabetes through new drug developments.
After the film a fundraising aftershow reception was held in Harvey Nichols and guests were invited to bid for a signed script from the film and also an original X-Men drawing from Marvel Comics.
The fundraising evening raised almost fifteen thousand pounds towards the campaign and a number of high profile business people indicated an interest in the work and are currently planning visits to the University to find out more.
