Dundee Degree Show 2003 is a fantastic opportunity to experience the diversity of work achieved by final year students as part of the biggest exhibition that Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design annually stages. Whether it's the multiplicity of work on show by students from the Schools of Fine Art, Design, TVI or Architecture, what is guaranteed is the chance to witness something innovative and exciting - the outcome of each student's personal and creative development following several years of study.
The Degree show is also a time to celebrate success, with yet another fantastic year for graduates of DJCAD. As Dean of Faculty Prof Georgina Follett says, "It really continues to surprise us how well our students do annually". There has especially been a continuing standard of excellence achieved in the digital domain, with outstanding dexterity being demonstrated in time-based and animation disciplines - Douglas Simpson Y4 Animation & Electronic Media has just completed a cinema trailer for Hannaywood Films. Also Ah-bin Shim was selected by artist Sam Taylor-Wood and designer Peter Saville for a prize in the Beck's Futures Student Prize for Film and Video 2003.
This year there have also been further successes in the graphics field with two 4th year students Andrew Gillon and Lisa Wilson winning categories in RSA Student Design Awards. A further three final year students (Debbie McKay, Stephen Flynn and Simon Ramsay) have been nominated in Information design and TV Graphics sections of British Design and Art Direction student Awards 2003 to be announced in July 2003.
Meanwhile, Head of Fine Art Euan MacArthur has spoken of, "Another excellent and diverse year demonstrating the talents of the students who pass through the Fine Art Course", with final year Drawing and Painting student Sarah Forrest winning an award in this year's RSA Exhibition in Edinburgh.
Finally, it is also particularly pleasing to note how well recent graduates are doing currently, both nationally and internationally, with a high number of Fine Art Graduates being chosen to represent Scotland at the 50th Venice Biennale 2003.
