Exchange and Make
An experimental collaboration between postgraduate students at the Universities of Dundee and St Andrews culminated last month with an exhibition of creative writing and visual arts.
Fine art students from Duncan of Jordanstone and M.Litt creative writing students from the University of St Andrews have spent the last three months sharing ideas to create collaborative works.
The result, a compelling combination of images and text entitled "Exchange and Make", was displayed at the visual research centre at Dundee Contemporary Arts.
Fine art lecturer Kevin Henderson, from Dundee, and creative writing lecturer and poet Professor Douglas Dunn, from St Andrews, led the joint project.
Kevin said, "Throughout history there has been a close relationship between writing and visual arts. The aim of the project was to provide the opportunity for the students to meet and discuss a broad range of ideas, free of strict boundaries. Both groups of students have developed some exciting ideas inspired by their meetings.
Douglas said, "The students have benefited from speaking to others from a different creative discipline. The project has allowed them to develop different kinds of ideas and different ways of dealing with reality through the imagination."
