The first evening concert this term will be on 30 January at 7.30pm in the Chaplaincy Centre when Catherine Baker will be giving a performance of English and French song. Catherine was born in Dunfermline and studied at Durham University. Her most recent concerts include performances of Walton's Façade and the Spanish Lieder Booklet. Her programme will include British songs by Weir and Britten, complementing French pieces by Faure and Debussy.

Colin Stone is currently a member of the acclaimed London Mozart Trio but his solo career began in 1986 when he won the Royal Over-Seas League piano competition and made his debut at the Wigmore Hall. His first solo recording of Prokofiev's transcriptions of his own theatre music was released in 1994. Colin combines his performing with his role as a professor at the Royal Academy of Music. His concert on 21 February in the Bonar Hall will include Beethoven's Waldstein Sonata and Chopin's Ballade No. 4 in f minor.

The music society is working hard this term on a number of major pieces. At the Spring concert which is due to take place in St. Paul's Cathedral, the choir intends to perform Mozart's Requiem while the orchestra are working on Mendelssohn's Fifth Symphony, the Reformation. The Chamber choir are rehearsing Stanford's wonderful Songs of the Fleet, which they will be performing at a lunchtime concert on 8 March and are also busy preparing for their tour of Lisbon after Easter. This will be the chamber choir's 7th annual trip abroad.

Opsoc, following the usual stresses of auditions, are now hard at work preparing for their production of Oklahoma to be staged in the Bonar Hall at the start of May. Zoe Glenn has still to learn how to say no and will therefore be producing again while the group is delighted to welcome Alister Allan as their new musical director. As with all the groups, new members are always welcome and more information can be found at:
