Graduation Sensation gathers pace

by David Cunningham

Plans to host an event at the end of the graduation week for staff called Summer Sensation have now developed to an advanced stage. The end of year thank-you to all staff, their partners and friends on Friday 12 July, will ensure there is something for everyone no matter what campus or part of the University you are from.

The proposed site, a tented village surrounding the Sensation Science Centre and just one minute's walk from the main campus, will be constructed to provide a varied and exciting selection of mini-venues to ensure that everyone from the ceilidh lovers to the disco addicts will be more than happy. A sheltered courtyard will also be developed between the marquees to play host to street performers on the long summers evening and a fun fair will be incorporated into the event.

All in all, Summer Sensation is shaping up to be like nothing the University has seen before, an evening that will set the benchmark for all future staff events and an opportunity to bring the year to an end in style.

Graduation for design students attending the New Designers show in London during graduation week will be held again in the Estorick gallery in central London on Tuesday 9 July. Such was the success of last year's special event for graduands and their families, the University has decided to host another ceremony in London this year to ensure that our design students experience the same graduation festivities as their fellow students in Dundee. The Chancellor Sir James Black will confer the design students with their degrees before travelling to Dundee later in the week to dub another two thousand graduates in the Caird Hall.
