Fists flew at the University last month when the annual Scottish Universities boxing championships took place at the Bonar Hall.

Nine boxers from the University took part in the prestigious event, including returning champion Christopher McClung, a second year Dundee law student who claimed the heavyweight title at last year's event in Aberdeen. Christopher was victorious again this year, claiming the cruiserweight title.

Other winners from the Dundee team were Andrew Renwick, who took the lightweight title, Phil Niel, who claimed light-welterweight and super-heavy-weight Br yan Bunyan. All three are second year arts and social science students.

Normally held in Edinburgh or Aberdeen, this is only the second time the event has been held in Dundee during its 15 year history. It proved to be an exciting occasion and this year saw the introduction of women's boxing to the championship.

Sports Union president Stephen McLean said, "The University of Dundee has a good track record when it comes to boxing so we had high hopes of success this year.

'We weren't disappointed and we saw some first class boxing from our team. We're hoping to go from strength to strength in years to come."
