New deputies

Professor James Calderhead from the University of Bath has been appointed vice principal educational development and will take up post on 1 March 2003 (see page 3).

Professor David Boxer has been appointed acting vice principal research and enterprise with immediate effect and will be responsible for the development and implementation of the University's research strategy, economic development and commercialisation, and a range of academic planning issues. The post will be advertised over the next few weeks.

Two new deputy principals have been appointed:

Professor Geoff Ward will take the lead support role in developing new postgraduate programmes with particular reference to the faculties of arts and social sciences, education and social work, law and accountancy and Duncan of Jordanstone College. He will provide expertise and act as an advisor on changes in education policy and undertake a major review of e-learning and distance learning. Geoff will also work with other external agencies to develop the social and cultural responsibilities of the University.

Professor Malcolm Horner will continue to direct the centre for enterprise management and facilitate the development of new postgraduate programmes in life sciences, physical sciences and engineering, and medicine, dentistry and nursing. He will also provide management support to the Principal.

Professor Ward and Professor Horner have been appointed for a three year period and took up post on 18 November.

Mr Bill Barr will continue as deputy principal and director of campus services and Professor Ron Elder as deputy principal and dean of the faculty of education and social work.
