Summer School qualifiers

photo of Summer school party Sixty students who secured places at the summer school are starting their degree courses next week including the first student to gain a place to study dentistry through the summer programme. Sarah Al-Saffar arrived in Dundee from Iraq when she was twelve. Sarah: "I came to Dundee in 1996 and couldn't speak English. Through the summer school I am now embarking on the degree course I've always wanted to study. I'm really looking forward to it.

Dr John Blicharski: "The 2001 access summer school resulted in 59 disadvantaged students earning a place at the University - a 10% better progression rate than last year. In terms of breaking new barriers, as well as our 27 new arts and social science entrants, 17 science and engineering entrants, 11 future legal eagles, 2 accountants and one nurse, this year the University will admit the first ever dental student, Sarah Al-Saffar, qualified through an access course."
