New Year

Over 1,800 fresh faced enthusiastic students arrive this week to embark on their University careers. Over the summer while they have been sharpening their pencils, honing their word processing skills and immersing themselves in preparatory reading, the University has been a hive of activity with our own preparations to welcome the new recruits.

Those students starting their first year in Belmont's tower this week are in for a treat as they occupy new ensuite bedrooms and cook their first beans on toast in the new fully fitted kitchen accommodation. Construction workers were burning the midnight oil to make sure their 13 week project was complete for the class of 2005 moving in. Belmont's tower has been transformed. New fittings, carpets, beds, wall coverings, doors, network access, built-in wardrobes and beautiful shower rooms with power electric showers brings Belmont up the high standard of accommodation that the University offers in West Park and Seabraes.

The new IT suite in the tower basement has just been completed with 166 PC stations allowing students increased access to computing facilities well into the evening. Smaller suites round campus have closed and transferred their computers to the tower. The suite is fully accessible to disabled students. Student inductions to the suite and IT facilities start this week.
