Kristen Anderson, a third year students in the school of town and regional planning won the Annual Dundee Civic Award for innovative planning ideas.

Third year students were challenged to join the controversial debate about the western expansion of Dundee and draw up proposals to accommodate 1,000 new houses, community facilities and a major business park in the land north and west of the Swallow Hotel.

Councillor Robin Presswood, convenor of the planning committee, and Mike Galloway, director of planning and transportation at Dundee City Council, presented Kristen with her award at the finals in the department.

Barbara Illsley, programme director said: "Our students have gained a great deal from working with the city council on a "live" planning issue. Not only have they developed practical planning skills but they have gained a sense of realism and professionalism from interacting with members of the planning department."
