Christmas card 2001

This year's University Christmas card by Professor Will McLean is a mixed media construction of painted wood and bone. Entitled Voyage of the Anchorites, it is one of a series of works on the theme of the Anchorites. In his book 'Sea Road of the Saints', John Marsden describes the Anchorites as- The Holy men of Hebrides, Sailor Pilgrims such as Columba of Iona and Brendan the Voyager who came out of Ireland to seek exile in the Islands of the western sea.
