Economists Riding High

photo of Prof Chatterji It's official - students studying economics at the University of Dundee have a learning environment second to none in the UK! This was the verdict of the Economics Learning and Teaching Support Network - the HEFCE funded body set up to support the learning and teaching of economics in UK universities. Professor Monojit Chatterji recently won their first annual award for the most outstanding undergraduate economics course in a UK university for his first year module- global economic perspectives. The awarding panel felt that Professor Chatterji's nomination " displayed all the qualities of commitment, enthusiasm, innovation and inspiration that represent outstanding teaching".

A delighted Professor Chatterji received his award at the Developments in Economics and Business Conference at Bristol at the beginning of this term. Whilst accepting the award he said " I am pleased to receive this prestigious award. This course was collectively developed. It represents a real triumph for the whole department." The head of economic studies, Professor Martin Chalkley said " We are all very proud of Mono's achievement. It's the icing on our teaching cake as we fully expect our whole teaching programme to receive the highest accolades from QAA following their inspection during the last academic year."
